Content is king, and written content is what it’s all about. But to get them to notice the written content you have to attract them with a great image. You are competing with everything else on the Internet, and you need to grab readers’ attention and create intrigue, mystery, curiosity and a host of other emotions that wrap their tendrils around your visitor and pull them to your writing.

Headlines matter, but an image will draw the eye faster than a clever headline. Headlines are still important, but a picture is worth a thousand words, right?

Optimize Your Pinterest Images

optimize-pinterest-imagesPinterest is lots of fun, and it can also be a great source of traffic for your website—if you know how to pin the images that will send people to your site. This infographic gives lots of tips on making the most of Pinterest.

Be sure to read through the tips and advice in the infographic, but here are a few of my favorite points:

1. Create a variety of boards, and use keywords in the names of your boards. “Florida Beaches” is better than “Places I Love.”

2. Remember that Pinterest is social media, and don’t forget the “social” part. Instead of just throwing images out there, interact with others, comment, like and re-pin their images.

Use Images For Attention and Engagement

We humans are visual creatures and we love to look at pictures, so images are a great way to grab and keep attention online. Images can also tell a story, evoke emotions and show your readers how to do something.

There are lots of ways to use images in blog posts. One image may be fine in a typical blog post, but you may use several images in a tutorial where you are showing your readers how to do something with step-by-step instructions. Images may be different shapes and sizes. Some may be wrapped in text while others stand alone. Images may be photos or graphics.
