Success Strategy #7
Your Action Plan

Over the last week you have received lessons on some of the important things you need to know to become a mystery shopper. Today, we have a checklist of actions you can take to get started or to expand your mystery shopping opportunities. Start now and be on your way to becoming a professional shopper!

Consider what makes you qualified to be a mystery shopper. This may be your education, skills or professional experience.

Identify up to ten zip codes where you are willing to shop. Most shops don’t pay mileage, so you need to determine where you are willing to go on assignments.

Compose short paragraphs (about 35 - 100 words each) on the following subjects:
An example of good customer service;
An example of poor customer service; and
Why you want to be a mystery shopper/ why you would make a good shopper.
It’s helpful to have these on hand, as many applications will ask for them. Write them once, then cut-and-paste when completing applications.

Choose the companies you wish to apply to. Remember that many companies use shoppers all over the nation or the world, so many of the companies you shop for won’t be located in your city, even though they have clients in your area.

Submit applications online. If a company doesn’t have an online application (rare), you may mail a resume and letter of interest. (Don’t forget to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with each mailed resume.)

Follow up promptly when contacted by a mystery shopping company. Complete and return applications, call as directed to confirm assignments, complete and return reports by the deadlines, etc.

Continue locating and applying to additional companies to receive more work.

Each step of the way, be professional, be ethical, and have fun!
